However, if you’re not familiar with name-brand trumpets, it can be difficult to figure out which models are the best for you to invest in. So today, I’ve gone ahead, and I’ve created a list of my personal favorite Yamaha trumpets.

After playing the trumpet for 8 years, I’ve been around the block with several different models. So, I know what to look for and what to avoid when shopping around for trumpet models.

 This decision can be stressful, but I always highly recommend buying your instrument. There are so many benefits that come with buying your trumpet over renting one.

 Paying for rental fees may seem like a cheaper option upfront. However, if you plan on renting your instrument for many years to come, the cost of renting your instrument can stack up.

If you take a look at how long you plan on renting your instrument for and compare that to the cost of renting an instrument for that same period of time, you’ll see how by the instrument that’s a lot cheaper.

Plus, when you buy your instrument, you’re the only person caring for it. With rented instruments, you don’t know how many people have played the insurance or the quality of care those people have paid to the trumpet.

Yamaha trumpets are of amazing quality, and they deserve to have a lot of attention paid to them. Buying your instrument will ensure that the quality of your trumpet is maintained for many years.

A red brass mouthpiece is a lot easier to care for because it doesn’t require as much cleaning and won’t rust as quickly as other types of mouthpieces. Yet, if you are going to be playing the trumpet nearly every day and already care for it on a daily basis, a yellow brass mouth pipe will be the better option for you to consider. 

In addition, you’ll also want to consider the finishes of your trumpet. A lot of people aren’t aware of this, but the type of finish that you choose in your trumpet will actually have an impact on the sound of your trumpet.

Trumpets that have a silver plate finish are a lot thinner than yellow brass trumpets. The silver plate finishing provides more of a ring to the trumpet when it’s played, especially in comparison to lacquer finishes and yellow brass finishes.

I’m going to break down all of the important features of the instruments, like the sound, bore sizes, Bell sizes, and the key of the trumpet. I’ll also let you know if there are any additional accessories that could be found with the purchase of these trumpets. 

Yamaha YTR-6335

This is the best Yamaha trumpet I’ve ever played in my life. While I am partial to silver-plated trumpets, there’s so much about the trumpet that I fell in love with.

A lot of people talk about the Xeno series from Yamaha because this series of trumpets has a lot of beautiful features that people look for when they are investing in an instrument.

All of the trumpets from the Xeno have been hand-hammered and handcrafted, meeting a lot of attention to detail that has been paid to these trumpets. 

The yellow brass bell on this trumpet has been hammered by hand and only contains one piece, which is what contributes to the bright timber and the outstanding resonation the compliments any type of performance.

In addition, you’ll notice that this Yamaha trumpet has a medium-large bore, which is how the trumpet is able to project so well. Have you fallen in love yet? There’s more!

 The combination of the model pistons in the valves helps to create a fast action but is also corrosion-resistant. You won’t have any problems with sticky keys with this trumpet, which helps your music to sound more fluid.

In addition, you’ll get to choose between two finishes, So you can get whatever I said if you want. You can choose between silver plating and gold lacquer. Also, a 14B4 mouthpiece and a carry case will come along with your purchase.

Yamaha YTR-2330 Standard

The Yamaha YTR-2330 Standard trumpet is a Student grade trumpet, which is one of the reasons why it’s so affordable. But, just because it’s a student-level trumpet doesn’t mean that it’s not a great trumpet for both beginner and intermediate players.

What a person is going to pick up a trumpet is that it is super lightweight, which felt very comfortable on my hand. I have smaller hands and smaller stature, so I sometimes find some trumpets to be a little heavy and uncomfortable to play.

Because of how late we were to find this instrument, I found that it didn’t require a lot of effort to play. And since I wasn’t so focused on putting out a lot of additional energy trying to play this instrument, it really allowed me to focus on my intonation. 

However, there is a reason why this instrument isn’t as heavy as a trump is almost lives. It’s because the YTR-2330 trumpet doesn’t have a brace that’s located on the main tuning slide. This helps to take off some of the weight that the yellow brass bell has onto the instrument.

As a result, the instrument feels very balanced in your hand, which really allowed me to comfortably hold the third valve without putting my hand in an uncomfortable position. 

You’ll find up yellow brass bell on the trumpet is made with two pieces, which helps to promote endurance and proper technique. In addition, you’ll find that Yamaha uses model alloy pistons, which help to support the durability of the trumpet.

 Personally, what I found to be the coolest feature of this trumpet was that Yamaha included a new tuning slide where the main tuning slide and the second tuning slide are. This is what Yamaha uses for a lot of their professionally graded trumpets.

The only difference is that you’ll find with these tuning sizes is that the color of the tuning slide is slightly different, which adds to the overall durability of the instrument.

Cons

• I personally found that I had to oil this trumpet up a lot.
• I struggled to put on the valve caps; I found them very hard to screw in. However, this just may it’s something I personally struggle with. It may not be something that you will struggle with too.
• This trumpet definitely isn’t for people that are at an advanced level of musicianship. I found that when I played more advanced pieces in this trumpet, the trumpet really had a hard time keeping up with my technique without sounding muddy.

Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno

This is another professional-grade trumpet. As mentioned above, the Xeno collection from Yahama is well-known for its expert-level crafting and outstanding performance. This trumpet is another example of why so many people love the Xeno collection. 

If you consider yourself an exceptional level trumpet player, this is an exceptional trumpet to match your playing capabilities. 

On this trumpet, you’ll find a hand-hammered bell that’s comprised of one piece, which supports the uniformity of the tone that this trumpet is capable of producing. In addition, you’ll find that the Bell also helps to support the resonance end sound production capabilities of this trumpet. 

 In addition, if you take a look at the model pistons, you’ll find fast-action valves that are corroded and resistant. I personally love the round tubing that’s credited with pressure forms. The round tubing on this trumpet provided less resistance and a smoother airflow when I played the trumpet.

Complimentary to the round tubing, there was also a reverse lead pipe that made a huge difference and how easily are could flow through the trumpet.

If you’re looking for a Yamaha trumpet that’ll be the perfect accompaniment for your Jazz Journey, look no further than the 8345RS Xeno trumpet.

This trumpet was designed for a jazz musician that’s looking to produce a large, well-rounded, warm sound. If you want people to know you for your projection capabilities in your instrument, this is the perfect trumpet for you. 

The biggest thing that I noticed with his trumpet when I played it with how heavy it was. But, knowing that this is a great trumpet for jazz musicians, I do think that the weight of the trumpet is important.

It really helps to produce an even tone, but this definitely isn’t a trumpet that smaller trumpet players will be able to handle easily. Also, I think that the added weight of this trump would really help to add to the overall durability of the instrument.
